Call Return (1471)

‘1471’ is dialled to hear the number of the last caller, together with the time and date (unless withheld or from an exchange where the Calling Line Identity is not available).

To return the call press ‘3’ and the number is automatically dialled for the normal price of the call.

Call Return is automatically provided on lines from digital exchanges.

Instructions for use

Ascertaining the number:

Dial 1471

The message will tell you the number and when the call was made.

Calling the number back

Dial 3

The call will cost the normal amount for a call to that number

Withholding a number

1 4 1

You can use this to stop people finding out or displaying your number

NOTE: Any type of telephone can be used to operate the service (even dial phones).
NOTE: The telephone number of the following types of call cannot be retrieved using 1471:

  • Charge card calls
  • most calls from outside UK
  • Calls withheld by 141
  • Permanent number withholding
  • Calls originating from some non-BT networks
  • Calls from rural exchanges


NOTE: This feature is not available on Multiline Aux.
